Give Me a Token

In Joshua 2 we have a beautiful story of a woman who was willing to risk everything to save her family. Rahab was a harlot who lived in the city wall who helped hide two spies from the King of Jericho. The two spies came from the Israelite army to spy out the city of Jericho prior to overtaking the city. She had heard of the wonderful miracles that God had done for His people in the wilderness and she had come to believe in His greatness. After hiding the spies from the King of Jericho and his men, she asked them to return her kindness by sparing her and her family when they returned to conquer the city. In verse 12 she said "give me a true token". She was asking for a sign that they in fact would save her and household. They told her to hang a scarlet cord out of her window and to bring her family into her house. They would spare the house that had the scarlet cord. Later in Joshua 6:22, 23 we read that Rahab and her family were spared by Joshua and his army. This scarlet cord is symbolic of the blood of Jesus that is applied to our home. Like Rahab who made sure the scarlet cord hung from her window so we too must continue to apply the blood of Jesus over our home. This is our peace that the blood of Jesus is powerful enough to save and deliver our loved ones. This is our true token - the blood of Jesus.
